Default ...oh,...an introduction!

Hello all my Name is Dresen, i am 36 years old and from Germany.

Found this site, through a " youtube-link".

I came to know ct´s very early, because my stepfather was/is a conductor.

My father got in contact with a english tenor ( james griffith ) and from then on, almost exclusivly engaged English singers for his Handel Oratories, because of their eypertise in the singing style, as well as their knowledge of pronounciation.

Since i heard Timothy Penrose for the first time in my life, i really enjoyed listening to High Male voices.

...so i signed.

In " The High Male Voice, An Introduction", thank you very helpful, are mentioned a few female singers, with very pure and agile voices. Listen to "Ruth Holton" i think she´ll fit there to, though i never would compare her to a catrato. She sounds like a boy soprano.

Dresen

P.S.: Could not find it here, so i´ll link it.

Default Sopranist Video

I have listened to this video clip before and even downloaded it to my computer for further reference. Singing as a sopranist is extremely difficult and certainly does not have the vocal advantages of full voice. Consequently, he sings very carefully and softly. Although he has a fairly successful and pleasant voice, he lacks the power and agility of Aris Christofellis; and frankly, I am not aware of another sopranist who can equal Aris' technical ability.

In regard to other singers, Philippe Jaroussky has a reasonably high tessitura and can accept opera roles that other countertenors can not, but he can not reach the soprano parts. I believe that Randall Wong's only recorded opera was "Cleofide." I am afraid that Radu Marian's voice is not strong enough for many opera roles, and Patrick Husson seems to sing only rarely. As for Michael Maniaci and David Korn, I frankly have to admit that their heavy vibrato is off-putting and detracts from Baroque performance. No one, so far, has come up with a recording of Jorge Cano.

Welcome to our little community .

Yes, I saw Jacek's video and liked it. However, as sfkcbf says, his voice is not very powerful.

We might consider relaxing our filter in the video section a bit. I've plans to change it as well as other parts of the site.

I'm happy to hear you liked sfkcbf's article. I'm going to make it a bit more accessible and hopefully we will produce more such articles to encourage people to inform themselves about the subject instead of shying away.
